As you may or may not know, the Annual Galt Art Auction recently occurred. The event took place from 6:30-8:30, on Friday April 22nd, on the 3rd floor library of Alexander Galt. Each artist's work was accompanied by a short biography, and a QR code which potential buyers could scan to see their portfolio.
If you aren't familiar, the Art Auction involves the silent bidding on pieces of art created by none other than the students in the Visual Arts concentration. It’s a place where everyone in the concentration gets to share their artistic talents with the world.
At this annual event, you can expect to see many talented artists pour their heart and soul into a variety of beautiful paintings, all of which are up for bids. And if last year can be taken as an example, bids can exceed 100$ per painting!
Each year, all the Auction's proceeds are given to charity; this year, the monies will be headed straight towards the Canadian Ukraine Foundation. Galt's talent was on full display with numerous paintings depicting Ukrainian traditions, and national symbols such as the sunflower and decorated eggs, willow trees and the national bird the nightingale. A few of the paintings up for bid sold at the high price of 160$, so you could say it was a successful event.
On behalf of the Arts Concentration class, a sincere thank you to all who helped to raise a grand total of 2213.70$ for the Canadian Ukraine Foundation. They couldn’t have done it without you!
