For many people, Carnival is some of the best memories from high school. It’s a phenomenal week (and even more) filled with fun! Carnival is an event that brings people together and builds a strong sense of competition and teamwork. This week, carnival leaders and their teams were hard at work making posters and decorating the school with them. Sadly, many posters have been torn down and we ask people to show respect to other teams. Carnival is about being proud of your team, not putting down others. Putting the negative aspect aside, it has been amazing to see the excitement already bubbling up in anticipation of Carnival week.
Some of the most popular activities during Carnival include tug of war, knockout, egg toss, dancing, and dodgeball. This being said, we need people participating in everything so make sure you show up and support your team!
The Carnival teams are divided into 4 different groups. The Gremlins, the Armadillos, the Lizards, and the Tasmanian devils! G-A-L-T.
The Lizards are aiming to win the Carnival this year for a fourth time in a row, and they won’t back down, but the Devils promised revenge last year when losing by barely a few points after an incredible comeback. The Gremlins on their hand are aiming to regain their reputation whereas the Armadillos will try and lose theirs; finishing last every year. Carnival week isn’t here yet but the competition is already getting heated!
(This is a reminder to remain kind, this is a game and we are to have fun, not be rude to others.)
Here is a list of this years’ reps. Reps are responsible for organizing different aspects in the carnival, making posters, making their hype video, and being leaders for their team. They are all secondary five students, making their motivation to win during their last year even bigger. Reps have been chosen almost a month ago and have been hard at work for their team to make sure everything works out great.
Gremlins: Olivia Learned, Kahina Grondin, Ariel Ferland, Elisa Parent, Ben Robidas, Ryan O’Gallagher, and Jacoby Bennett. .
Armadillos: Valerie Papillon, Alexis Auger, Ellysha Mackey, Hamza Al Ammori, Zachary Lemay, Jaden St-Laurent, and Madryk Coleman.
Lizards: Anaelle Jutras-Plante, Maya Chené, Maité Alvarez-Bouchard, Liam Barnes, Cole McVety, Anthony Salvail-Cloutier, and Adewel Pennec.
Devils: Alisa Out-Sin, Kelly-Ann Day-Caron, Caitlin Collier, Brigetta Pehlemann, Ian McKenna, Bryce Coleman, Ian Patterson, and Jacob Turgeon.
Additionally, Carnival has been going on in Quebec for 100 to 200 years, and thus is where our School Carnival came from. Some of the main activities remain Tug of War, the Woodsman Competition, Gladiator, the Mechanical Bull and Dodgeball. Going back some years ago, there were screaming competitions in the cafeteria at the start of carnival where you would try to drown all other teams out. This year, posters unlike past years counted for points, and thus the school has been covered in them. At the end of the day however, Carnival revolves around school spirit, team spirit, and teamwork. Carnival week is coming up, so get ready to compete for your team and make sure to get in those points!
If you still don’t know what your team is, they are posted at all house offices and you are encouraged to follow your team’s social media page. Make sure you wear your team colors, participate in activities and cheer for your team. There is nothing that makes the reps happier than seeing their team show spirit and participate! Carnival week is from February 6th to 9th where there will be activities during lunch hour during the week and Thursday will be a full day of activities. There is no such thing as going too all out for Carnival, it’s a real competition! Good luck to all teams and may the best one win!
Carnival standings are updated at the end of each day here on the Piper Post. For all Carnival news and exclusive updates, check in regularily.
