The Eastern Townships School Board's United in Music festival returns April 24th, 2023 at 12pm at the Massey-Vanier High School auditorium with the theme of "music around the world". The festival welcomes musical groups such as choirs and rock bands from different schools in the ETSB to a day of uniting in music. About 300 students will be on stage "united in song".
Sherbrooke Elementary School's music teacher and festival organiser Tracey Rivette says her idea for the festival sprang from her desire for more music education within schools. "It's a celebration of music. A celebration of music celebration," she states when talking to CBC's Alison Brunette. She expresses how important it is to students, some for whom they've never previously been on stage, or have never been in front of such a big audience.
A committee of four decided the theme and chose songs for each of the schools to perform.
