In 2008, Coldplay released their hit single, “Viva la Vida." DC’s “The Dark Knight” hit the theatres and “Gossip Girl” had just premiered its second (and best) season. Some of you weren’t even born yet. 2008 is also the last time Galt hosted a school dance. Not a Prom… an actual School Dance for the entire school. Over the years, various students have demanded for this to change, and now, with Covid mostly out of the way, it’s finally happening.
On April 28th, 2023, at 6pm, cycle 2 students will once again be streaming into the gym, looking to enjoy a night they’ll never forget. Awkward slow-dancing, loud music, and entertainment guaranteed, a school dance is the culmination of any high school experience. Hayden Pelletier, head of the Dance Committee, says a school dance is “like another bonus to the school”. She adds, “It’s something fun, and something to take pride in.”
The theme that has been voted on by the majority of the student body is difficult to condense into a single phrase, but “Into the Stars” is as close as it gets. Arisha Iman, another member of the Dance Committee, sums it up as “a coherent purple. Very daydream-y, very after-party." And that’s the spirit. After-party, disco balls, black lights, glitter make-up and all different shades of purple.
The ticket sale will begin Thursday April 6th at 8 dollars per ticket. Later on, Please note the school dance is only open to cycle 2 students. See you there!
