This week on Wednesday, February 22nd is the annual Pink Shirt Day. Wearing a pink shirt demonstrates your pledge to making the world a kinder and safer place for everyone. Pink Shirt Day is an anti-bullying day where we celebrate diversity and create a habitat where everyone can feel safe, appreciated and well respected.
In addition, the Galt student council will be selling cotton candy in the Cafeteria at noon.
Furthermore, for the students who will not have a pink shirt, there will be a pink booth, where you can get some pink gear to show your support. More importantly, this day is to raise awareness for more compassion and kindness in our school.
Let’s dig into the historical side of Pink Shirt Day. It started in the year 2007, in Nova Scotia. A student brought a bunch of pink shirts to school and got his classmates to wear them to show their support for one of their peers who got bullied for wearing pink. Almost everyone wore pink to show their support that bullying is wrong and if you witness bullying, you should stand up immediately.
What is the difference between Bullying and Cyberbullying?
Bullying can be either physical or verbal. Examples of physical bullying are hitting, kicking, and pushing whereas cyber bullying is using social media or technology, for example, to embarrass someone.
Both types of bullying are not right, so that is why we need you as students to show your support for pink shirt day and where pink to encourage anti bullying day!
Remember, do not be a bully, be a buddy!
