The Best Seasonal Cookie Recipe

It’s snowing! No, seriously, while I write this it is snowing, and with snow comes Christmas, right? The holidays are near and collectively society enjoys them. There is so much to do and so much to be excited about. Such as food. Here, you shall find the best cookie recipe for not just the holiday season, but as a year round treat! With the subtle hint of chai it makes these tasty treats perfect for the fall and winter seasons.

There are two ways you can make the cookies.

Method one:

If you are lazy, or short on time, the quick and easy way is to make sugar cookies from a mix and just add a packet of chai tea and pour it into the batter . Bake according to the package directions and enjoy!

Method two:

If you are more of the baker type, or have time to kill, what follows is the best way to make these cookies from scratch.

Enough for 24 cookies | Prep time 15 min|bake time 10 min|

Ingredients:

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 cup butter (softened)

  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • Crushed up chai leaves (from chai tea packet)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven 190˚C (375˚F)

  2. Sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and chai leaves in a bowl. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until it forms a smooth mixture. Add the egg and vanilla and beat until incorporated.

  4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until a batter is formed . With a spoon or a cookie scoop, form small balls of dough and place them onto ungreased cookie sheets.

  5. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.

  6. Let them sit on the cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Then transfer the cookies to a wire rack and let them cool to room temperature.

  7. Enjoy!

Icing:

These cookies are great alone, but even better with icing! So here is a tasty icing recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar

  • ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg

  • ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon

  • 3 tablespoons of milk or eggnog (both work just fine)

Directions:

Mix everything until you are content with it. The more milk/eggnog you add, the more your icing will become a glaze. Spread on the cookies and if desired sprinkle some cinnamon on top and enjoy!
