This past Sunday, November fifth, the borough of Lennoxville held its annual
Remembrance Day ceremony. As is tradition, the event started with a short parade composed of members of the ANAF Unit #318, also known as “the Hut.” Several members of the First Lennoxville Scout Troop were also in attendance. The members of the parade marched up to the Lennoxville Cenotaph, located on the corner of Queen Street and Samuel-Grantham Street.
After this short march, the customary two minutes of silence—dating back to the beginning of Remembrance Day—were observed, an opening prayer took place, and O Canada was played. Following the anthem, the traditional wreath laying was done. Delegates from many important organisations were present, such as high-ranking officers from The Sherbrooke Hussars, The Fusiliers de Sherbrooke, and The 52e Ambulance de campagne laid their respective wreaths. Other institutions represented with wreaths include the Sherbrooke unit of the Royal Canadian Legion, ANAF Unit #318, the First Lennoxville Scouts, and the city of Sherbrooke. To conclude the ceremony of respect, Reverend Ronald Coughlin led a closing prayer, and the parade marched off. Around 30 spectators came to view the event.
For those interested in other armistice ceremonies around the Townships, Sawerville and Cookshire are holding ceremonies on November 10th in partnership with their respective ETSB elementary schools, on November 11th, Scottstown, Bury, and Sherbrooke have ceremonies, while East Angus is holding its ceremony on November 12th.
