A new month equals new books. This month was filled with sequels (and prequels) to much loved books, as well as new books that could very well become hits. Many new releases were holiday books, many of which you might see in our holiday book recommendations. I've compiled a list of rom-coms, mystery and fantasy books. Without further ado, the new books of October:
1. It Starts With Us, by Colleen Hoover
In the sequel from the hit novel It Ends With Us, Lily runs back into her teenage flame, Atlas, two years after they last saw each other, all while she and her ex-husband Ryle reach enough peace to start a "civil co-parenting" situation. Things get complicated when Atlas asks Lily out on a date, and she eagerly agrees. Problems arise as she realizes that even if they're divorced, Ryle will hate the idea of Atlas being in Lily's, and his daughter's, life. It Starts With Us is told in a dual narration from the point of view of Lily and Atlas, finally revealing his side of the story.
2. Built to Last, by Erin Hahn
Shelby Springfield, a former child TV star, turns to woodworking, trying to forget all about her past life. When she's asked to star in a home renovation show, she is reunited with two of her former co-stars. Lyle Jessup, the producer of the show, and Cameron, who not only was her co-star but also her childhood sweetheart. When Lyle tries to cause trouble by inviting Cameron to star in the show with Shelby, sparks (and sawdust) fly. While Cameron wants to turn the page on his unstable life as a documentary maker, and wants to settle down, Shelby wants to prove she has changed from her messy days as a celebrity. Both try to overcome Lyle's shenanigans all while trying to make the show as good as it can be.
3. The First to Die at the End, by Adam Silvera
In the prequel to the bestselling They both Die at the End, readers get a look at what the characters were like before the final call. The night before Death-Cast is published, everyone is wondering can it accurately predict someone's death? Orion, who has a serious heart condition, had long awaited the moment when someone would tell him his time has come. Valentino, who has a long and promising future is restarting his life in the big apple. But when his twin sister nearly dies in a car accident, he signs up for Death-Cast. When the two boys meet in Times Square, they feel a deep connection. When the first "End Day" call goes out, both of their lives are changed forever. Only one of them gets the call. Even though neither of them know how the day will turn out, all they do know is that they want to spend those hours together.
4. By the Time You Read This I'll Be Gone, by Stephanie Kuehn
Beatrice Fletcher loves mystery, like her great-aunt, a famous mystery writer. She is interested in all the unsolved murders in her town. However, it gets personal when her best friend, Jackson, goes missing. Instead of finding her best friend at a late night meet-up, she finds three over-friendly students from Broadmoor Academy. They are secretive, and big on playing the Broadmoor tradition where everything is a clue to future fame and fortune. The only thing… players don't stop at nothing to get ahead, even murder. If Beatrice really wants to find Jackson, she's going to have to join the game. Everyone in the small town is hiding something, and it's up to her to figure out what.
5. The Atlas Paradox, by Olivie Blake
Everyone must pick a side: protect the world, or destroy it. The Atlas Six is revealed for what it actually is; a secret society, led by a man whose plans to change life as it is known have already begun. In a world where knowledge is steep, and power requires everyone to choose a side, the question is, what alliances will hold?
The Atlas Paradox is the much-anticipated sequel to The Atlas Six. This book is "guaranteed to have even more yearning, backstabbing, betrayal, and chaos."
