As a third-year Ph.D candidate, Olive Smith doesn’t believe in lasting romantic relationships — but her best friend does, and that’s what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is dating and well on her way to a happily ever after was always going to take more than hand-wavy Jedi mind tricks: Scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting biologist, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.
This man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor — and well-known jerk. Which is why Olive is positively floored when Stanford’s reigning lab tyrant agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. And when a big science conference goes haywire, putting Olive’s career on the Bunsen burner, Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support.
Suddenly their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion. And Olive discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope. - As stated on the book’s back cover
The Love Hypothesis is a romantic comedy recommended for readers aged 18 to 25. Although the recommended age is 18 plus, it is still very appealing to those under 18. However, I do not recommend this book to anyone under 13 or 14 years old due to mature topics.
The Love Hypothesis is a fake dating trope filled with banter, inside jokes, and chemistry… quite literally. The book highlights the importance of honest and trusting friendships. There are numerous references to physics, chemistry and science scattered throughout the book. However, it is written in a way that isn't too confusing to read or understand. The Love Hypothesis is a stand alone with a chapter written in the future of the book. However, the author, Ali Hazelwood has written several other romance novels incorporating science, physics and chemistry.
The Love Hypothesis borders between a 4.5 and 5 star rating. It is the perfect choice for those who have never read a romcom before. The Love Hypothesis will keep you turning pages until you’ve reached the end of the book. It is an amazing combination of sweet, romantic and funny that will make your expectations fly through the roof. The novel also contains a fantastic blend of short and long chapters in the perfect places.
Personally, having read a lot of books, the fake dating trope is one of the best tropes if it is done well. In The Love Hypothesis, it is extremely well executed, making it one of my top 10 books!
